Hampden Veterinary Hospital is a 24/7, 365-days-a-year veterinary hospital for pets, and the wider practice also states it treats horses and farm animals. Reviews suggest the small-animal side sees a lot of routine preventative care (vaccinations, health checks, flea/worm treatments) alongside complex medical/surgical cases—one owner describes a major operation (leg amputation) with aftercare, and another mentions hospitalisation for an older dog with multiple health complications (blindness and diabetes).
From the latest reviews, owners most often highlight staff adapting appointments for anxious or difficult pets (e.g., carrying out a vaccination in the waiting area to keep things quieter; finding a way to give jabs without anaesthesia/hospitalisation). A minority report concerns about cost escalation and wanting clearer explanations of options.
4.3 stars from 180 reviews. - Handling nervous or difficult pets: multiple owners describe staff changing how/where appointments happen (e.g., vaccinating in the waiting area; finding alternatives to anaesthesia/hospital stays for jabs).

The vet we saw for routine vaccinations was excellent. I had a dog and a cat and she was brilliant with both of them. A good sense of humour too!

We have quite a nervous cockapoo, who is not a fan of the Vets, but yesterday when I took her for her vaccinations, the vet and receptionist were welcoming and understanding. We worked around Hattie’s needs and both the health check and vaccinations were completed without undue stress for Hattie and I! Thank you.

Re: Hampden Veterinary Hospital: I have had a cat for approximately 11 years and I've used this Vet for all of that time, and have a continuing account with them for annual checks, and regular 'injections' for fleas etc. My cat has also had a couple of minor problems and one major operation to remove one of his legs. All of the smaller problems, checks, and operation + after care was excellently undertaken by Hampden Vets with loving care and empathy. I would recommend them 100%. Patricia Woodward

I took our dogs to Haddenham for their annual check and vaccinations. This was carefully planned to be the last appointment of the day so it would be quiet as one of our dogs is deaf and very anxious. I knew Monty would not go into the consultation room so the whole appointment took place in the waiting area. Maddie and Janet could not have been more accommodating, they were so patient, calm and kind and worked hard to help Monty feel safe. It took a long time but Maddie successfully managed to administer the vaccination. A huge thank you to you both.

Hearing all the news about vets at the moment reminds me of my awful experience with this hospital. My cat was having problems, I saw the vet who quoted me £1500 for the treatment. She was treated but the cost kept increasing. She lived (unwell) for another 6 months before having to be put to sleep. The total cost in the end was over £3500. I loved my cat but I wish the vet had explained my options more clearly. My friend's cat had a similar issue and vet offered to put her to sleep while she was still under after the initial investigations. This saved my friend money and saved their cat suffering. My experience of this vet is that they are very money driven.

We have a very difficult cat who more than hates going to the vets but Malcolm and the team have found a solution which means he can have his jabs without being anesthetised and going to hospital. We are very grateful that they go the extra mile. Thank you team.

Good morning, I'm a newly registered client, with your practice, Bella has visited twice, firstly simply for a meet and greet as her vaccination was completed with breeder.Second for, weigh-in and start of her monthly flea and worming treatment. I have also registered with your pet plan, and everybody on your team is very knowledgable and helpful with the process, Bella is a friendly little soul, and it certainly makes these new adventures easier for both of us when your team are most welcoming. Thank you.

All the vets, nurses and receptionists have always taken really good care of my dog (and me! ) They are always thorough and examine anything you're concerned about. I knew Douglas was in safe hands when he had to stay at the hospital recently, despite all the complications of him being old, blind and diabetic. They also keep excellent records, making insurance claims an easy process. I highly recommend 😊

I've been a customer of Hampden Vets for about 30 years with my many pet rabbits. My experience today at the Haddenham branch was excellent. Leone was fantastic handling my elderly rabbit with great care while giving him his vaccination and a thorough health check. Her advice and cheerfulness was appreciated too. I felt confident Beanie had received the best care. Reception was great too.
